HUEY LEWIS: It's Not Hip to Be Deaf

Huey Lewis isn't letting his hearing loss get him down.

Lewis has Meniere's disease, an ailment that affects the inner ear and prompts vertigo and other disorienting symptoms.

On NBC's Today show Monday morning, he said, "I haven’t come to grips with the fact that I may never sing again. I’m still hoping I’m gonna get better. They say a positive attitude is important... I can do everything but what I love to do the most, which is a drag. I’m going to concentrate on getting better, and hope that one day soon I’ll be able to perform again."

Lewis isn't the first singer to be told to stop performing due to hearing loss in recent years. AC/DC's Brian Johnson got a similar order a few years ago. And alternative rocker Ryan Adams spent a year away from music after being diagnosed with Meniere's, though he's made a full comeback.
