Walk The Moon Singer Covers Marvin Gaye To Support Black Lives Matter

Like many artists in the rock community, Walk The Moon have been using their platform to call for justice after George Floyd was killed by a police officer on May 25.

Over the weekend, they pledged to match fan donations to Black Visions Collective up to $4,000 and ended up raising $36,700.32. On Wednesday (June 3), the band's singer Nicholas Petricca continued showing his support by covering Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" in an Instagram video.

"thank you Black artists who continue to transform the world with your expression and are to thank for so much of the music that we love and admire," Petricca captioned the clip, before quoting Gaye. “'An artist, if he is truly an artist, is only interested in one thing and that is to wake up the minds of men, to have mankind and womankind realize that there is something greater than what we see on the surface.'"

The video shows Petricca holding up a sign that reads "Black Lives Matter" and then blacking out the screen. Watch him cover "What's Going On" below.

Walk The Moon isn't the only band donating their time and money to the cause. Panic! At The Disco's Brendon Urie recently announced he would be redirecting his Highest Hopes Foundation funds to anti-racist organizations, and Young The Giant is giving away music gear to fans who donate to organizations that support racial justice and fight police brutality.
