Brooks Laich Says Sex Was 'Pushed Down On The Priority List' In His Past

Brooks Laich is an open book if you listen to his How Men Think podcast, where the former NHL player gets candid with listeners about a ton of topics. As for the latest item to make the rounds, Laich reflected on how physical intimacy has been pushed down on the list of priorities in his past.

"I think sexuality is something that gets pushed down on the priority list, on the totem pole for people,” the former athlete, 37, confessed. “They’re, like, [focused on] work, kids, job, whatever. Gotta clean the house, get the groceries. It’s something that people — at least in my experience — I have, like, pushed down versus holding it up at the top, almost like living, eating, breathing."

Laich went on to declare that going a month without sex should be entirely normal, but some effort is necessary to keeping a spark alive. "I think at some point you just have to realize, 'OK, our connection has dissipated a little bit. Let’s intentionally move back into this space and even if we aren’t feeling it... even if it’s not just naturally a pull, like, oh my god, we’re all over each other, let’s create an atmosphere or environment or something where we are making time to be intentional about this," he explained. "That can spark the natural pull, too."

Whether or not Laich was referring to his romance with Julianne Hough remains to be seen, but the timing is specific. The two have been on friendly terms and even spent time together for the latter’s recent birthday celebration. The pair announced their separation in late May after nearly three years of marriage.

Elsewhere in the episode, Laich also reflected on his 2017 wedding with Hough, deeming it "the greatest time of [his] life. "I just want everybody to have that experience," he said when speaking about the delayed weddings happening amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "That memory of your world, her world, both worlds colliding, the people you love the most in the world coming together to celebrate love."
