Sisters in Ohio Raise Money for Veterans

A pair of young sisters in Ohio have raised more than $10-thousand to support Honor Flight, a program that flies veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the war memorials. Tessa Ziegler, 10, and her six-year-old sister Raya have been holding yard sales, working baseball games, and community events to raise money for the program.

At the girls’ last yard sale, they put out a bunch of their unwanted toys without pricing any of them, asking visitors to contribute what they could and managed to raise over $800 for Honor Flight. They also raised over $14-hundred at a local military appreciation night and another $1-thousand at a fundraiser on Veteran’s Day last year. The sisters also made care packages for active duty military and placed wreaths on soldiers’ graves during the holidays.

In addition to the girls’ fundraising efforts, for the last five years, the Ziegler girls have been at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, to greet every returning Honor Flight. Their dedication to the cause has earned the young ladies the respect of many former and current soldiers and also earned them the title of Honorary Honor Flight Ambassadors, a fitting recognition for their dedication to supporting veterans
