OSCARS: May Go Without Host

With Kevin Hart out as host of the 2019 Oscars, the organization is thinking of going without an emcee.

A source tells Variety the comedian's departure last week "blindsided" the Academy and now “they’re freaking out.”

With no Plan B, the show’s producers are considering all options. Another insider says the Academy is reportedly "gun shy about going with someone anyone who might be too edgy." The safest bet, then, is going without a host but rather “a bunch of huge celebs, something SNL style, and buzzy people.”

With or without a host, the 91st Academy Awards airs February 24th.
